Monthly Reporting

a. Cariboo Regional District – presented by CRD Director, Steve Forseth (via report in absence)

  • Completion and Adoption of 2023 Budget. Total global requisition for ALL CRD Services – 3.9% with Area D’s contribution to that figure of roughly 1% (but this can vary depending on which community you reside in within Area “D”). Concerns raised from South Cariboo Electoral Areas over local issues or road maintenance issues (no surprise) but nothing raised so far in Area D communities to date with me.
  • Discussion of Road Maintenance in the Region – general dissatisfaction with Dawson Road Maintenance while general satisfaction with Emcon Services’
  • Continue to advocate for rural road needs including with a recent meeting, through NCLGA, with BC’s Transportation Minister. He is aware of additional funding needs for rural transportation and will be advocating for his Ministry for additional funding in the 2023 Fiscal Year…
  • Monitoring snowpack situation in Region. For Area “D” (Quesnel snowpack) – currently 91% of normal (Feb 2022 – this was 109% of normal). With recent snowfall – I expect the snowpack number to rise for March 2023. I also expect the RD to message out about strategic placement of sandbags in the Cariboo Regional District in March, when RD Staff have a sense of where potential flood locations may occur.
  • Congratulations to MLRC for another well put-on event – Family Day event 2023. In addition, well done by the Oasis Café for a well put on Valentine Day’s event from the feedback I have received or seen online.

b. Mcleese Lake Fire Department

  • Now have charitable status. Donations are now eligible for tax reciepts.
  • Recruiting drive event was successful. New recruits Trevor, Seth and Tana, Reima.

b. Mcleese Lake Recreation Commission Events Planning

  • Toys from the parent and tots group to be moved out on Thursday, March 30 in preparation for April 2, Celebration of life.
  • Discuss Bingo time proposition to change the time to 7 PM?
    • Will allow for attendees to travel safely during winter driving conditions or if families need to finish dinner with families first.
    • 7 PM is probably too late for some of the volunteers. Suggestion for compromising to 6:30 PM, motioned by Judy.
    • 6:30 PM Bingo time is passed.
    • LAST Bingo is the 3rd Tuesday of May. Will start back in the fall (dates TBD).
